4 out of 5 stars Imagine Jason Voorhees Wearing A Black Ski Mask And Butchering Coeds At An Abandoned, Cursed Ski Resort   August 30, 2008
J. B. Hoyos (Chesapeake, VA)
If you enjoyed "Friday 13th Parts 1 through 3" and "My Bloody Valentine," you will flip over "Shredder." A maniac in a ski mask is stalking and butchering young people who have invaded his territory. The maniac has been hurt by a tragic accident in the past and he wants revenge on all snowboarders. Beautiful, snow covered mountains and an abandoned, haunted ski resort serve as the setting for terror. The killings are imaginative, gory and realistic; the body count is high; and the chase scenes are plentiful and intense.

"Shredder" would've been extremely popular during the slasher frenzy era of the mid-seventies to mid-eighties. I found it to be very nostalgic; it reminded me of many of my favorite slasher films. The youth of today may not appreciate it as much as I. Because it mimicked so many slasher films, it was not as original as it should have been. Therefore, I doubt that there will be a sequel.

I love a good mystery and "Shredder" is definitely a mystery. The maniac's identity is kept hidden until the end. This was the film's strong point and what motivated me to continue watching although the gory death sequences would've accomplished that on their own.

"Shredder" is definitely recommended for those who enjoy good slasher films, especially those that came from the slasher frenzy era. Also, it is highly recommended for fans of Italian gialli (murder mysteries). It is a great movie to watch on a cold winter night when all the lights are turned off and only one candle is burning.

3 out of 5 stars Coulda been 3.5...   March 16, 2008

I didn't mind this slasher flick too much really. Yes, it's cliche, but that's fine, I like the teens/young 20 something people getting picked off one by one. Some of the kills were unique and the skiing thing was pretty fresh. Well thought out in that aspect really. The only thing that prevented me from giving this movie a little higher score was the element of a foolish European hitchhiker character. He adds nothing to the movie except an element of soft porn and a fake/corny accent, STUPID! Anyway, pick it up with a pizza on a Saturday night, you'll be pleased for the most part.

2 out of 5 stars Words Can't Explain!   January 13, 2008
Jill Dunsmore
Oh my goodness!! It never ceases to amaze me how I can run across movies like "Shredder" on Amazon, but I do!! This movie sounded kind of cool, but I was wrong! It was cool in the sense of snow and all, but it pretty much sucked throughout!

The killer was obvious, the acting was atrocious, and the script was laughable. What really saved me, and really persuaded me to watch this movie were the cool deaths. The last one was so fake, but otherwise, the deaths were okay. That's where the two stars comes in.

Anyway, if you want to see some cool deaths, then check "Shredder" out, but otherwise you must stay away at all times!!

2 out of 5 stars Continuing my assault on crappy horror cinema   November 1, 2007
THE MAIN MAN (Central Bookin', NY)

Damn, my Halloween practically sucked. I ran out of beer fast and had to sit through some garbage flicks. This was just another one. I had a feeling this was going to eat dirt from the opening scene. The opening scene started with a dude almost completely losing his head. He did lose some fingers though. That was pretty cool. But as we all know. This is the usual formula for your run o' the mill slasher. Which almost always falls before the end and this one does just that.

The deal with this flick is. Some chicks father buys a ski resort. There's been some rumors floating around about it. So the girl takes a few of her friends on a vacation to check it out. They're later stalked by a killer who wants them dead for breaking the rules. Plus the killer hates snowboarders. Huh? Well, when it comes down to slashers these days. Who really cares if the story or plot makes sense or not? So, tossing everything that could make sense out the window. You get your typical slasher with stoners, hot chicks and all, screwing guys who they barely know plus trying to out wit a killer they already figured out not to be unstoppable.

I will give this some credit. The acting was ok. The deaths weren't too bad, except for one that was completely dumb. And when things start to happen it doesn't slow down. Its not a horrible movie but I didn't find it too likeable either. Its not scary or creepy either.

There's better slasher flicks out there. Since this is cheaper than a rental I don't think its avoidable. But I kind of wish I made this one of my last buys. The special features contain deleted scenes and the original trailer. Nothing special.

4 out of 5 stars Way Underated   May 27, 2006

Shredder is one of the most underated modern day B movies I have seen. The reviews that bash this movie or incorrect and untruthful. Shredder is a blast to whatch from the begginning to the end. The movie is about a group of college students that travel to an abandoned ski lodge for their break. Little did they know a killer is up there waiting to murder anyone that disobeyes the rules of the resort. Shredder is filled with many murders but what really pleased me was the variation. I don't want to see a killer only stabbing people with a single weapon, the killings need to vary and be different, thats what will keep a viewer watching. The movie also has a nude scene of a very attractive girl, but not the most attractive. Theres actually a scene in a hotub with a gorgeous girl that has zero nudity. That scene was dissapointing. Overall Shredder was a fun movie filled with killing, nudity and all the good stuff that you'd expect in a B-movie and its only $1.00, you cannot go wrong with this one.
