for real? January 6, 2009 B~Starr (fightn 4 freedom somewhere) i still haven't watched this dvd in it's entirety...i can't get into it. Don't be in a rush to purchase
Worth your time! (spoiler-ish review) January 1, 2009 a work in progress (Ames, IA USA) I really enjoyed this movie. It's a feel good movie that is visually appealing and the music is great. In fact, I liked the music so much I bought the soundtrack at Amazon.uk, the only place I could still find it. It's the story of Nina, a gal who ran off on her wedding day to avoid marrying a man handpicked by her parents, someone she didn't love. She returns for her father's funeral but also has hopes of fitting back into the family she left. She finds the family must sell the Indian restaurant her father poured his heart into but Nina fights to save it and finds herself starting to fall for her brother's girlfriend in the process. I'll let you find out the rest but it will leave you with a smile on your face at the end. It's worth adding to your lesbian dvd collection.

"Nina's Heavenly Delights"
A Romantic Feast
Amos Lassen
"Nina's Heavenly Delights" is the story of an Indian woman's attempt to save her family's restaurant in Glasgow. It is something of a fairy tale which uses three cross-cultural and diverse romances (gay, straight and lesbian) who are participating in a competition for the best curry. However there are several problems with the film--an abundance of stereotypes, conventional dialog and jokes that do not work detract from what otherwise could have been a really good film. Be that what it may, it is a sweet film that was made for audiences and not for reviewers and critics, Nina Shah (Shelley Conn) left her fiance Sanjay (Ragi James) three years ago and she has returned to Glasgow for her father's funeral. With his death, the family fears that his curry restaurant may fall to rivals if Nina does not win the cooking finals going on at the time, Nina and Lisa (Laura Fraser), another chef at the restaurant team up but they find that it is not only the recipes that is keeping them together. Suddenly everyone in the film discovers that they are in love with something or someone. There are two major themes here--the death of a parent and the fall of idealism while attempting to return to integrity and community integration. At the core of "Nina" is grief--for her father and for all that is not as it should be---respect, solidarity, friendship, communication, home. This is not a typical tale of family and lesbian love but more of a look at the way we change because of death, respect and love. It is about being true to oneself and learning how to accept and follow one's passions.
Pretty Good October 27, 2008 Aimee Matias Wood (Panama) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I liked this movie a lot. The characters are well casted (eventhough i think they could've done better with the casting of "Lisa")... on screen chemistry is very good between the main characters. Didn't like the director commentary. But other than that, great for those who believe in fairy tales..
A-may-zing! October 8, 2008 Tracey Kemp (TX) When I saw how few reviews were available for this movie I just had to write one. Just by chance, I had seen the trailer for this movie, and it looked so entertaining I just took a chance and bought it. It was the best movie I have purchased in a very long time (and I am very picky about my movies, especially the lesbian ones). You will enjoy this movie no matter what your lifestyle as there is a mix of comedy, exposure to Indian-Scottish culture and cuisine, and a very sexy on-screen chemistry between two gorgeous women. It's movies like this that make you wish for a sequel!!!
