Product Description Mermaids are supposed to stay under the sea but Ariel a headstrong teenager longs to be part of the magical world on land. When she falls in love with a human prince Ariel strikes a bargain with the diabolical Sea Witch to win the prince's love. THE LITTLE MERMAID is a beautiful splash of art and music that revived the classic Disney tradition.System Requirements:Running Time 83 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY Rating: G UPC: 786936284065 Manufacturer No: 04023400
Amazon.com essential video From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs. Ariel can only succeed if she receives true love's kiss in a few day's time and she needs all the help she can from a singing crab named Sebastian, a loudmouth seagull, and a flounder. The lyrics and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are top form: witty and relevant, and they advance the story (go on, hum a few bars of "Under the Sea"). Mermaid put animation back on the studio's "to do" list and was responsible for ushering Beauty and the Beast to theaters. A modern Disney classic. --Keith Simanton

What A Joy! October 8, 2008 Maria Procopio (Coral Springs, FL) Sent this as a gift to a very special little girl on her birthday. She just loves the movie and I get the biggest kick out of listening to her humming the tunes. Would definately recommend this.
Great Stuff October 6, 2008 Angie's Husband (Pacific Northwest) Well done remastering. Colors are nice and vivid. Everything we remember from the theatres back when it was orginally released. Worth buying!
Enjoyed! September 21, 2008 Diane Barnes I sent this to my 3 year old granddaughter in Long Beach for her birthday. Her parents tell me she loved it.
So although I didn't see it I got a good "review" of it!
What I'm looking for now is a copy of the Lion King.
Thanks.

The best Disney movie of my lifetime September 15, 2008 Sonia Nat (Portland, Oregon, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Fine, I was pretty young when this movie came out. But I watched it again and again and again. Knew all the songs and still do. I'm sure I will know them all my life. I do have a soft spot for "Dumbo" and "Robin Hood," but in my lifetime this is the best Disney movie ever made. And since Disney isn't making any more animated movies this may well be the last good Disney movie ever. Sorry all you Lion King and Beauty/Beast fans, they just didn't do it for me. It's sad to witness an end to an era of creative genius but I'm glad they decided to close their animation offices rather than keep putting out things like Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I haven't seen any of the video sequels, thank god. Oh, and by the way, when I talk about the Disney movies made in my lifetime, I'm not counting Pixar, which I think makes great films. Unfortunately, it seems like they've left the cartoon musical behind too. I'm afraid we'll never see another movie like The Little Mermaid again.
Regional Restriction for viewing in Australian DVD player August 30, 2008 mars (Australia) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
There is apparently a Regional Restriction for viewing the DVD in Australian DVD player. So we were unable to view the DVD on our DVD player. It would nice that when we purchase the DVD that Amazon.com would tell us that there would be restrictions in viewing the DVD in Australia and restrict us in continuing with the purchase.
