Match Game is really BLANK ("awesome") October 5, 2008 Rachel Banks 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This enjoyable "Best of Match Game" DVD four disc set is very funny and a good walk down memory lane. It has both Match Game PM and Match Game daytime with mixed episodes together and they are out of chronological order (which being honest is the only thing I found distracting). That said it's a "Best of" DVD with the funky 70's music. Of course seeing host Gene Rayburn and panel regulars Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly and Richard Dawson together again was well worth the purchase.
This show always had two contestants and in order for either of them to win a chance at the big prize they had to "match" as many of the six celebrity panelists with their best response to questions that always had a "blank" in it. The one that matched the most of them went onto to play for the big money prize. Celebrity guests included Jack Klugman, Betty White, Arlene Francis, Bill Daily, William Shatner, and Della Reese just to name a few.
I really did prefer the Richard Dawson (Family Feud) years before he left Match Game for good. There is an episode shown on here, as others have mentioned, where Richard Dawson truly disagreed with the judge about a ruling and he practically started an audience mutiny.....In regards to the DVD extra bonus at the end of each disc: the very funny Brett Somers did commentary on her co-stars, episodes, and did a very nice tribute to host Gene Rayburn. The first ever Match Game pilot from 1962 is on disc 4. This set of course is dedicated to the second updated version of this series from the 1973 - 1982 era.
My favorite of the regulars is Brett and Charles - they were very funny together. A wonderful product! My hope is that more of the series comes to DVD.
Darling, I Like It, I Can't Deny It August 24, 2008 Retro_Saiyan (Australia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm really enjoying watching this DVD. Although I was born in 1990 and I only know a few of the celebrities, I still found it to be laugh-out-loud funny and at times really clever. The picture quality is quite good considering it's a 70's/Early 80's video taped show, although there is the occasional tape glitch, they only happen for a few seconds in a handful of episodes. Indeed, the picture quality is a lot better than some DVDs I've seen of shows made years later (I was actually appalled at how bad the picture quality was on one late-80's sitcom I bought on DVD). My only problem with the DVD set was that it left me wanting more, and I hope more episodes come to DVD.
Great for nostalgia, leaves you wanting more... June 25, 2008 D. Hildebrand (USA) Great for nostalgia. Leaves you wanting more.
Watch the shows on each disc before you watch the interviews/flash backs with Brett Sommers. The show clips are pulled from the shows on the discs, rather than from single clip on the disc, and it gets pretty choppy and disjointed while your DVD player hunts around for the clips. This might have been a good idea to save space on the discs but it makes the interviews tedious. Rather than 30 second blips of a real highlight you get 4 minutes of show you've already watched. Just seemed like the producers were lazy on this count.
A tad off the mark..... May 21, 2008 James E. Kerr III 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I finally ordered this for myself the other day. In general, I was pleased. The episodes selected are funny, but they're not the best I've seen. You'll get plenty of laughs when watching this, but I think they should release a second version with the BEST and FUNNIEST episodes.

Bought this DVD for my grandma for Christmas. She is a big Match Game fan and loved this gift. If you are a fan of Match Game then you will love this DVD.
