Fantasy enthusiasts and animal documentary aficionados alike are sure to get a kick from this imaginative blend of adventure and nature special that purports to investigate the discovery of a dragon's corpse in modern-day Romania. Director Justin Hardy skillfully balances the framing story of a British scientific team that attempts to understand the creature's unique capabilities (flight, fire breathing) with documentary-style "re-creations" (narrated by The Lord of the Rings' Ian Holm) that explain how dragons evolved since prehistoric times. Stunning CGI effects (members of the visual effects team worked previously on the Walking with Dinosaurs series and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) help make these flashbacks as realistic as possible, but what really sells the premise is the script by Hardy and Charlie Foley (with assistance from acclaimed fantasy author Neil Gaiman), which uses real animal biology and history to present a compelling and plausible case for the existence of these mythological animals. --Paul Gaita

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   August 25, 2008
Mara Barbee (California, covered in cats)
I originally saw this on TV, and made a mental note that if a DVD ever came out, I would buy it. It did, and it's now on my bookshelf. This "docu-fantasy" is an awesome explanation for how dragons would work if we officially discovered them. As a writer and avid reader of dragon-related things, this gave me many ideas to use in stories, and it made the whole concept much more real. I've read too many books that don't even try to explain how creatures that big can fly, let alone breathe fire. This does, and it does it very well indeed. Now I know it's all possible, and that is a fantastic thing.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent sci-fi documentary film   April 26, 2008
Luiz Claudio V. Cruz
The video has a superb introduction leading the viewer to believe this is actually a real documentary. The carcasses are superb, the flying hyphotesis are somehow credible, but the platinum fire breathing theory is the truly hard part to believe as a real possibility. Another theory would have to fill this gap.

The initial and pre-historic scenes are superior but the final scene at the museum after the discovery and unburial of the adult female, is not credible (no further investigations and details) and the scene with the pair of adult and young females carcasses in their final embrace is completly spoiled by too much brightness and fuzziness, completly spoiling the superb quality of the previous outstanding baby dragon carcass.

Overall, is a very interesting sci-fi film which makes us wonder about the real truth about dragons.

3 out of 5 stars Kinda bogus but entertaining   March 14, 2008
Cyberdealer (Fort Worth, TX)
My son (17) considers himself a draconologist. He loved this movie and thought it was true but it's pretty fictional. Still, it was entertaining.

4 out of 5 stars Fantasy fantastic!   February 13, 2008
Shane Egan (Cashel,Tipperary, Ireland)
To anyone who has ever dreamed of dragons, this film will enthrall. Full of possibilities and near genius ideas, it takes us from disdain through disbelief to outright amazement.
It is no risk. If you love fantasy, your dragons await you!

5 out of 5 stars Dragon's World: A Fantasy Made Real   February 8, 2008
Dr. Bryant O'connell (QLD Australia)
Brilliant documentary-type film! It explores the life and times of the dragon and offers suggestions as to how it could fly, breathe fire, rear young and so on. Much is supposition, but surprisingly credible.
Do you believe in dragons? If yes then take some time and watch this DVD. You will not be dissappointed.
If not, then have a look anyway; you may even be convinced.
