Product Description Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 05/27/2008 Run time: 64 minutes Rating: Nr
Amazon.com While fans breathlessly await the fate of the computer-animated New Adventures of Spider-Man (it remains in limbo after being dropped by MTV in 2003), they can enjoy three episodes of its first season on this disc (culled from the 13-episode two-disc set, which is a better choice for completists). Mainframe Entertainment (which created the cult Saturday morning series ReBoot) and writer/executive producer Brian Michael Bendis (the Ultimate Spider-Man comic) give the venerable story a spin by placing Peter Parker (voiced by Neil Patrick Harris) in college alongside pal Harry Osborn (Ian Ziering) and longtime crush Mary Jane Watson (singer Lisa Loeb). As usual, Parker/Spidey must conceal his secret identity while wrangling a host of foes, which are a mix of ones drawn from the comic book and brand new enemies. Spider-Man fans seem firmly divided into "for" and "against" camps over the animation, which beautifully captures Spidey's web-slinging, but often looks awkward when depicting everyday movement. --Paul Gaita

A diffent Spiderman for ADULTS! April 2, 2008 Mark Goodwin (Wolcott, Ct United States) Hi. I rarely write a review, too busy looking for work since my last place of businesses closed. The factory shut down and now at age 50 I am searching for a way to feed my family. Thank God for Amazon. Anyways, I purchased this more for myself. I had no idea of the ratings, MILD language, sexual refences? Well whatever. Personally I don't care for for this form of animation. However the writing is excellent the only complaint is the last moment of the show we are left hanging. What will become of spiderman? Is it all a mind game? Is the girl really dead? My son of 10 saw the item come in but he understands that Dad says no sometimes and does not question my authority. He answers to me, I answer to God. I go to the pawn shop sometimes and I am appalled at what some parents allow in so far as games. A big M on the cover, and they still allow it. This is the difficulty. Parents should stop whining and open their eyes. The ratings exist for a reason. To wrap, The show is great, hope MTV picks it up so I am not left hanging, not for children, enough said.
What an awful video! January 26, 2008 A. G. Sharma (Atlanta, GA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are only 3 episodes and it's done in some kind of cheap CGI! Buyers beware! This is NOT the original Spiderman. Nowhere near the quality.
great animated version of spiderman 1 December 30, 2007 K. Miller (N.C. USA) grandson was tickled to death with it ,has already watched it a couple times since Christmas!
Great Cartoon July 1, 2007 mike_proximity (Chicago, IL) The best cartoon series ever done on my favorite super-hero, and I've watched most of the other ones. It's a shame it didn't last very long. Is it an accurate description of the comic book Spider-Man? No, but so what! Neither are the other cartoons, or the movies for that matter. It's really as if we go back to the early days of Peter Parker (which would have been in the early '60's) and see what it would have been like if it took place in the early 21st century. It doesn't have the serious tone of the comics (or movies) but it's not aimed at young children either.
Not for young children! December 28, 2006 carolyn (Canal Winchester, OH) 19 out of 28 found this review helpful
I absolutely could not believe this cartoon. Can you imagine a superhero using swear words? Well, that's what you have with this one. still can't believe it. What on earth are they trying to do with Spiderman? This obviously is a series for adults because, quite frankly, superheroes are supposed to be out for justice, truth and the american way, not to spend time in the gutter learning all the trash they can to spread it wherever. I don't recommend this product at all. Ours is going into the trash!
