Product Description Follows four teenage girls as they try to achieve their dreams of competing in the Olympics in gymnastics.
Amazon.com Training to be an Olympic gymnast is excruciatingly hard work and leaves little time for anything else in a preteen's life. Fellow female gymnasts and friends Payson (Ayla Kell), Kaylie (Josie Loren), and Lauren (Cassie Scerbo) have trained together for years at the Rocky Mountain Gymnastic Training Center, better known as "The Rock." The three top-ranked young women are in line to represent their team at Nationals, and, if they perform well, their placement in the top 12 will send them on to their ultimate goal of competing in the 2012 Olympic Games. The girls' lives revolve around training and they are bound by strict rules that forbid boyfriends, jobs, and any real social life. Their sacrifices are huge, but absolutely essential in creating and maintaining the intense focus and determination necessary for competing at the Olympic level. Despite the best efforts of the girls and their families to avoid distractions, every member of The Rock is shaken up when new girl and unknown gymnast Emily (Chelsea Hobbs) joins the gym on a scholarship and seems to have a shot at making Nationals; coach Marty (Erik Palladino) suddenly leaves the team; new coach Sasha (Neil Jackson) takes over; and personal problems threaten to sidetrack each of them. Even Coach Sasha's firm hand and zero tolerance for mistakes can't protect the girls from the real-life ups and downs that come with growing up, family life, love, injuries, and financial instability. What the girls learn as they struggle to focus on their gymnastic training and Olympic dreams are some very difficult lessons about friendship, family, love, control, and being part of a team. This extended edition contains the first nine episodes of the series as well as a 10th extended finale episode, "All That Glitters." Bonus features include six deleted scenes and a 9-minute making-of featurette with interview footage of the four major stars as well as writer Holly Sorensen, gymnastic coach Carolyn Day, and stunt coordinator Greg Barnett. ABC Family's Make It or Break It series offers powerful insight into the challenging sport of women's gymnastics, but it's much more than a chronicle of the sport: it's also a captivating series about growing up and the search to discover what's truly important in one's life. the most amazing show ever August 24, 2010 meggzb this is most definitely the best show i have ever seen. i have never been more addicted to anything like i am to this. this is the best show on television. i cant wait till the next make it or break it volume comes out !
lovin the series, where's the soundtrack? August 20, 2010 Rebecca I'm hooked! Great series, I can't wait to find out what happens next. A slight tendency to focus on the negative more often than the positive--even these women's triumphs are brought down by petty rivalries and conflicts over boys. It's too bad that Lauren Tanner is simultaneously the most consistent, watchable, non-prissy character on the show and the nastiest. It's like watching every dirty secret of the women's movement splayed across the screen for all to see--both cathartic and disheartening.
The show's certainly unique in that it portrays professional athletes in all the strife, difficulties, and challenges they face, rather than simply the joy of the sport. These girls struggle with bulimia, whether to have sex, the consequences of having sex and the shame of virginity, economic difficulties...they are in every way normal teenagers. However, thanks to some EXCELLENT writing [best I've seen on a show since Grey's Anatomy, and more enjoyable sans blood and guts] these girls seem much more NORMAL, strikingly, than do most teenagers featured on dramatic television.
All in all, a great series, and it'll only get better. Right?
p.s. props to the writers for keeping the boys dreamy yet realistic, and keeping everyone consistently characterized, with normal problems and real-life concerns! We love you.
One MAJOR question, though--when's the soundtrack coming out?! I absolutely adore the music in the show, and I can't wait to be able to buy it all...so, when can I do that?
Please make that happen?
