Product Description An owner of a magical toy shop decides to turn ownership over to the manager, but first an accountant must decide what the whole store is worth.
Amazon.com Equal parts whimsical and bittersweet, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is a family-friendly movie that will charm youngsters. Dustin Hoffman stars in the titular role of an eccentric 243-year-old owner of a magical toy store. He doesn't appear to be sick, but he has lived a long and happy life and is content to leave his emporium to his employee Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman). A former child prodigy who has grown up unsure of herself, she barely knows who she is, much less what she wants to become. Molly is both frightened that her beloved boss is leaving and that she will be left in charge of a store she doesn't know how to run. "Are you dying?" she asks him. Magorium points out, "Light bulbs die, my dear. I am departing." His take on death is both comforting and matter of fact, things younger viewers may find soothing when dealing with mortality. Though the film has drawn comparisons to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, this G-rated venture is less dark, curious and interesting than the former. Still, it offers dazzling visuals and a premise that who you are isn't equivalent with who you think you are. Adult moviegoers may find the premise cloying and repetitive. But seen from a child's eye, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is indeed a magical place for a short visit. --Jae-Ha Kim

Make Believe for All Ages September 8, 2010 Kerri Busteed (Wisconsin) Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium is a wonderful addition to any movie collection. This story illustrates how you have to believe in order to succeed. In the story Mr. Magorium's toy store is as magical as Mr. Magorium himself. He has a door of rooms, a magical book that can locate any toy in the store, a man who lives in the basement who helps with all the books and so much more. The time has come for Mr. Magorium to leave this life and move on to the next, unfortunately this makes the toy store very upset. The store starts to "throw a tantrum" at the very idea of having to exist without their owner. Now Mr. Magorium needs someone to take over the store and keep the store happy, only the young lady he has chosen doesn't believe in herself.
I loved sharing this story with my two kids. We enjoyed watching the toy store come to life. The imagination that went into the story is fabulous. If I didn't know better, I would think a child had written the story. It made me want to be a kid again (or at least act like one!)

Come back as a bumblebee? August 31, 2010 This movie was pretty good, but a bit weird and there's no real meaning. Mr. Magorium's employee (Molly) syas she can't seem to play the piano like she used too and stuff. And then he gives her a block of wood to 'believe in'. then Mr. Magorium gets anothe employee who's a buisness man. then Mr. Magorium says he's going to die. And he says he'll come back as a bumblee? O-k................................ but it's becuase he's a hindu. there's 3 bad things in this movie: 1. molly wears a revealing dress. 9this is supposed to be a kids movie?) 2. he says he'll come back as a bumblee bee. (p-lease!) 3. Molly is supposed to 'believe in' the block of wood. (HELP!!!!!) anyway, this movie's a bit weird and not as kid-ish as it should be.
Real delight August 30, 2010 Elizabeth T. Williams (Santa Fe, NM) What a delightful movie. All of us, from 7 year old granddaughter to 69 year old and several inbetween, loved the film.
An Enjoyable Family Movie August 21, 2010 AwakeNow.co.uk Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium - where Toys come to life! I began to watch this DVD with great scepticism and little hope that it would be enjoyable, bar to children but was pleasantly surprised from the outset - well apart from the long drawn-out animated title sequence!
The story line went well, and Dustin Hoffman roll as Mr Magorium was played well. In some respects, the acting reminded me of Dustin in Rain Man. The animation was clever and the small cast worked well together.
An Enjoyable Family Movie
Pleasantly Surprised August 14, 2010 Tootsie (Wisconsin USA) I didn't think my grandson would like this movie but he and I both did. It's a good child's movie but I wish they would have done something different with the very end. I was very happy that I received the dvd in 3 days.
