Battlestar Galactica's season 2.5 (i.e., the final 10 episodes of the second season, plus an extended version of episode 10) picks up where season 2.0 (the first 10 episodes) left off: Galactica's giddy reunion with the Pegasus had taken a sour turn when Admiral Cain (Michelle Forbes) went back on her word to Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) and decided to integrate the crews, moving Apollo (Jamie Bamber) and Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) to Pegasus. The animosity, combined with an attack on Sharon (Grace Park), threatens to derail a golden opportunity for the fleet to strike the Cylons where they'll hurt, and stay hurt--their resurrection ship.

In many ways, Sharon is the central character. The attack lands Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) and the Chief (Aaron Douglas) in hot water; her impending baby remains the subject of heated debate among president Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), Commander Adama, and others; and a rebellious movement determined to force Galactica to give up the Cylon ends up threatening both Apollo and Starbuck and putting further strain on their already-shaky relationship. Dr. Baltar (James Callis) becomes even more intertwined with the Cylons when he discovers another version of Number Six (Tricia Helfer) on the Pegasus, but is also in line to take over the presidency as Roslin's cancer reaches a critical stage. Battlestar Galactica's inexorable dramatic arc sagged in a couple episodes during this run, but the terrific two-part season finale involving a presidential election, a glimmer of hope for humanity, and some unexpected turns of events makes for a thrilling springboard to season 3. Battlestar is often called the best sci-fi show on television, but that seems like damning it with faint praise; it's the best drama on television.

In addition to the 10 episodes, the three-DVD set has an extended version of the last episode of season 2.0, "Pegasus"; the extra 15 minutes include a longer conversation in which Cain reveals her plans to Adama. That episode has a commentary track by executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, Moore's podcast commentaries are on every other episode, Eick's "video blogs" serve as casual featurettes on series production, and there are numerous deleted scenes. --David Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Frackin right, this just gets better!   March 2, 2010
Obiturized (New Hampshire)
I found myself wanting to expand my Sci-fi horizons, already being an avid fan of 'Star Trek' 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' 'Star Trek: Voyager' 'The X-Files' 'The Twilight Zone' and so on, I was suggested this series from a friend online, so a couple months ago, I picked up season 4.5 first (it was all the store had), but I decided to wait until I got the previous seasons, as I found this is a show you have to watch in chronological order, or you won't get it, so about a month after I picked up 4.5, they got the rest of the seasons in stock, I was very happy.

So I picked up season 1 first, watched the miniseries, and right from there, I was in love, I knew I was watching something special right off, I'm not a fan of modern TV shows, I find the old shows and movies are the ones for me, but every once in a while, I'll try something new, like I did with this, and I do not regret it, as it is one of the best series' I've ever seen.

The Next few days after getting season 1, I picked up the rest I needed (2.0, 2.5, 3, and 4.0.

I just finished season 2.5, and this series does not let up, the drama just gets more and more intense, and becomes more interesting, lots of important things happen this season, I don't want to play spoiler, so I won't, but if you watched season 1 and 2.0 and loved them as I did, you need to get this half-season to finish season 2, as you haven't seen anything yet.

BUY IT!

On the product itself, awesome series. Absolutely love the dynamic and the real world social themes that soar through the show. Easy to watch, addicting, and it's not over-the-top "space-y" so that many types of different people can watch it.

I do think it's a little "price-y" for only 10 episodes. It would be nice if you could buy an entire season for the same price.

5 out of 5 stars BSG - Season 2.5 - 5 stars from me   February 2, 2010

I have enjoyed this series tremendously. The character development, and the fine line of moral, religious, personal, political definitions are carefully walked. and you get great looks and space stuff.

I only wished they'dve packaged season 2 in one box

1 out of 5 stars Here is where I left the series.   November 24, 2009
W. Nichols (Pacific Northwest)
The special effects are great and the acting is not bad for the most part. What turned me away were the plot holes and the underlying theme. The theme seems to be, "No matter how much the leaders screw up, they should remain in power because, well, just because."

Admiral Cain is a good example of this (straw, camel's back). She did what to keep the Pegasus going? And Adama doesn't mention to Roselyn that maybe they should interview some of the Pegasus crew to see if what was said was true? But, then, Roselynn did leave that little girl on that one ship to die way back at the start of the series because, well, just because.

What's interesting is how they only hint at what Cain has done. And then when she tells her XO not to do what she sent him to Galactica to do, it is at this point that you almost accept her as part of the team. But then you watch Razor, and about halfway through you realize that she should have been pushed out an airlock.

If you don't get what I am saying, or just don't get hung up on such stuff, enjoy the show. It is quite good visually.
But if I had unknown Cylon agents on my ship, I'd go back to Anchorhead and sit there for a few days while they all died (with no hope of resurrection).

It's frakkin' annoying.

5 out of 5 stars frakkin' awesome, reinvents the genre   October 23, 2009
Mr. Scott Grover (san diego ca)
I can be a pretty demanding TV critic, but this series breaks the mold. Nothing like the original, lots of surprises and plot twists, very well-developed characters. I hope Glen Larson (creator) is blown away by the upgrade from the chessy 80's version. It's must see. Just when you think they can't outdo themselves, boy do they ever!

This should be on your bucket list, hands down.
