for those male audiances who enjoy such viewing.I have watch it several times and almost as funny the 5th time watching it as it was the first time!! NOT TO BE VIEWED AROUND CHILDREN OR WOMEN!!!
Not worth watching. August 31, 2010 Nukedude (Everett, WA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This movie had better bits on a famous web sight. All of the action scenes were pretty pathetic and the worst part is they even say this is a better than average B movie. Stick with real low budget B movies and don't even wast more than $1000 US dollars if you want to make a real B movie. I will stick to older crappier movies that used to be shown at 3 AM twenty years ago for my entertainment. The women on this movie are great eye candy, but even that gets old quick since they don't show too much anyway. Not recommended unless you just have to collect movies like this. I thought with the way society has gone the last decade or so this might actually be a good movie, it isn't. Marina on her Hot for Words sight can keep having her guest on though. I am just not going to waste my time on this movie.
3 1/2- 4 stars for this sexploitation extravaganza! August 8, 2010 Robert Badgley (London,Ontario,Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had a copy of Bitch Slap(released Jan/10)thrown onto my desk by the same friend who recently strongly recommended JVCD,which turned out to be quite the revelation(see my review on that)."Watch THIS one" he said, smirking away. I replied "You have got to be kidding me....Bitch Slap......BITCH!??.With that word in the title,we're heading somewhere I don't want to go,let alone write a review on"."Get the blinkers off and just watch the darn thing",he said.Having a queue of movies and books to review that should be finished just around the time I climb into that final pine box,I reluctantly agreed.
Well after just having finished watching it I can say my bud has made another, surprisingly for him, good choice.Don't let the title side track you or turn you off as this is a high adrenaline fun fest that never lets up from start to finish. The only other film lately to have plesantly surprised me like this, besides JVCD,was Zombieland.
I was not actually totally unfamiliar with the flick as I had heard it had had a screening at the Toronto film festival last year, and I had, unbeknownst to friend, seen the trailer which was on the Universal Soldier:Regeneration DVD.What caught my eye right off,and it wasn't the sexual aspect,is it had Michael Hurst,Kevin Sorbo and Lucy Lawless in it.Now having watched the movie itself I can say it also has Renee O'Connor in it and it is co-produced by Eric Grundeman. If these names do not sound familiar to you let me refresh your memory.Grundeman was heavily involved in the production end of both TV shows Hercules and Xena;Kevin Sorbo and Michael Hurst played Hercules and side kick Iolaus(respectively) and Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor played Xena and side kick Gabrielle(respectively). There is ALOT of heavy talent there and this was enough to intrigue me but...the name,"Bitch"....geesh.So I put the thoughts aside until now.
The story here involves three women Hel(Erin Cummings-the name of Hel by the way is ANOTHER inside reference as it comes from the short lived Grundeman-involved show Cleopatra 2525),Trixie(Julie Voth)and Camaro(America Olivo).
It opens with Trixie on her knees out in the desert, surrounded by burning hulks and fire all around asking"How did it come to this?".And so the movie plays itself out going from the current moment to ever farther back in time flashbacks.Hel is a James Bond like female agent working for a man with the code name of Phoenix(Sorbo). Her mission is to obtain a cylinder containing viral nano-bots that could potentially destroy life on the planet from her nemesis the fabled Pinky.Pinky is referred to throughout the movie but is always seen in silhouette and whose identity remains a mystery. Also referred to throughout is the Glory Hole, which is where the entire story evolved from.Hel,whose code name is Foxy 69,was to retrieve the cylinder at the Glory Hole,a casino in Las Vegas. The operation went south and the vial was taken by a man called Gage(Michael Hurst),who was working for Pinky.Gage took the cylinder and millions of dollars worth of diamonds out to the desert and buried them for safe keeping.Hel's new assignment is to retireve the cylinder at all costs from its' hidden location. To that end she recruits stripper Trixie and rough and tough Camaro, who lives off her little red speed pills and can be the other side of psycho on the turn of a dime.Hel keeps her real identity and motives a secret.
Back to present and the three women have Gage in their clutches at a desert location with a small trailer. They try "persuading" Gage to reveal the cylinders location and after much torture he only says what they seek is about 15 feet due east of the trailer.Camaro eventually wastes Gage, much to Hel's chagrin, and they go a-digging.First they dig up Hel's boss the Phoenix. They get interrupted twice.First by a policemen who recognizes Trixie because he saw her at a strip club but keeps it under wraps and eventually leaves. The second time is by one of Gage's henchmen Hotwire(William Gregory Lee),a Turrettes-afflicted post-apocalyptic punk rocker straight out of Mad Max and his side kick Kinki(Minae Noji),who bears a more than passing resemblance to Gogo Yubari from Kill Bill. The two make Hel and Camaro dig for the "treasure" and for awhile they have the upper hand. After the girls successfully find an opening to an underground room they get their chance and dispatch Hotwire and Kinki.
Camaro has become increasingly unstable and paranoid and when she and Hel go at it,Hel has to put her in chains for her and Trixie's safety.Down in the underground room Hel finds the cylinder and the millions of dollars of diamonds. When they resurface they find Camaro is no where to be seen.Just as Trixie heads for the car she is shot from behind and falls;a shot from Camaro.Hel duels it out with Camaro, and when Camaro is about to deal a death blow to Hel,she goes down in a hail of bullets from Trixie.Trixie however has a secret;SHE is the fabled Pinky and not only Gage and company were working for her but Phoenix also. She manipulated Hel's entire assignment from beginning to end in order to retrieve not only the cylinder and diamonds but a priceless Japanese sword also found in the underground room.
Trixie does not kill Hel but leaves Hel lying wounded on the desert floor as she speeds away in one very jazzed up ride which on cue comes seemingly out of nowhere to pick her up.
From beginning to the end this film just never stops.Sometimes this flashback technique can severely curtail the flow of a picture but here it works very well.As I said at the start the flashbacks keep going farther and farther back;starting from a few days before all the way to months before. Each flashback of course slowly but srely fills in more and more pieces to the overall puzzle. The film is NOT for the younger crowd as it does reveal much female pulchritude and the movie pushes the boundries of the rating sytem(and good tatse)to its' maximum position without seemingly going past it's boundries. This will certainly bog some down as to its' enjoyment factor but I found in films such as this(like Tarantino's Grindhouse series and Kill Bill)is that you have to look beyond the obvious and see the over all picture. This film is overly exploitaive on so many levels but it never takes itself seriously and that's the key;you have to know what the film makers intentions are. Here you just have to go with the flow, hold on tight and enjoy the ride. It's the only wasy to enjoy this and other such films. Some work(Kill Bill),some don't(Grindhouse series)but this one I found works very nicely.
Michael Hurst as Gage does a terrific job with his snarly and cocky Aussie-accentuated attitude;dressed only in a long shirt and very skimpy underwear.Gregory Lee is also a delight as the Turrettes Syndrome inflicted punk rocker killer.Of course Kevin Sorbo as the Phoenix and walk ons Lucy Lawless as Mother Superior and Renee O'Connor as Sister Batril are wonderful to see.And of course the films three stars show off more than just what their mama gave them;though they sure did get alot!
Technically the film has been transferred nicely onto DVD into its widescreen splendour of 2:35:1.Points are taken away here as there are NO extras whatsoever on this single disc, not even the trailer. There is a two disc edition available that does have many extras and if you like the cast and what you hear here,I might recommend you get that one.
In conclusion if you like Tarantino or are a fan of the old sex-ploitation flicks of the 50s-70s this one is for you.It also has a myriad of other film references such as James Bond and the Hong Kong style flicks to name just two.It certainly has a "broad" appeal and the unrelenting pace and "hard" action keeps your attention focused right where it should throughout. It may have the "B" word in its' title, which is probably the reason this sleeper hasn't got the respect it deserves, but it is filled with lots of fun. There is plenty of potential for cult film status here folks.A surprising recommendation.
Uncomplicated, Indulgent Entertainment July 11, 2010 Edward Bebop (Columbia, MD) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This movie is one of the few independent films that didn't make me fall asleep within the first ten minutes. The plot, characters, and overall tone of the movie is simple. Beautiful violent women trying to find money in the desert, yet each woman has her own agenda for being there. There are girl fights, nuns, secret agents, lots of guns, and a murderous asian woman called Kinky. Personally, I liked the fact that the story was uncomplicated and the film contain many cliches. If anyone has listened to the director and cast commentary on the dvd, you'll know that this film was intended to be a fun piece of entertainment. Not an award-winning blockbuster, hailed by mainstream audiences as a work of art. It's a B movie, nothing more and nothing less. I think if you give the movie a try and don't expect to much from it, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
