Product Description LAST OF THE MOHICANS - DVD Movie
Amazon.com Wildly romantic, daringly exciting, Michael Mann's film of James Fenimore Cooper's novel created a new babe magnet out of Daniel Day-Lewis, he of the heaving pecs and flowing mane. As Hawkeye, he plays an American settler raised by the Mohicans who is forced to serve as a guide for British adventurism in upstate New York. But the British have been outflanked by the French (and their Indian allies); then British honor is betrayed when a band of renegades assaults them during their retreat. Mann captures the viciousness of this era's hand-to-hand combat in startling battle scenes. But he also invests the film with heartfelt romance, as the feelings swell between Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe. The ending is a stunner, a long, nearly wordless sequence of battle and loss. Strong performances all around, particularly by Russell Means as Chingachgook and Wes Studi as the evil Magua. --Marshall Fine

Wow September 4, 2010 Richard Schulman (Bristol) "They are a breed apart and make no sense" That is my favorite line from this great
action film. I saw it on the big screen and was riveted. Just lately I saw it on TV and it still held me transfixed. Besides great acting from all, the movie captured time , place and realistic horror of war. The directing and pacing was excellent.
Michael Mann, if it ain't broke don't fix it! August 29, 2010 Colonial Girl Waited like many others in GREAT anticipation for the DVD of this film to come out and was COMPLETELY let down. No Clannad song, good lines and good scenes cut out, stupid lines and awkward meaningless scenes put in. What on earth were you thinking, Mr. Director? We wanted the theatrical version. We STILL want the theatrical version. PLEASE I beg you re-release the theatrical version on DVD and/or BluRay.
different August 29, 2010 true crime reader I have the silent version of this movie & it is good so I wanted to see the newer one. Even tho it is the same story it is so different. The silent one wasn't as bloody. But this one was good also.
Maybe there's hope August 28, 2010 Mikie (Southwest US) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
From the rumor mill: the blu-ray movie length will be 114 minutes - the same running time as the VHS. Maybe Clannad's song and the missing dialog will be restored.
Michael Mann should take a que from Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and release the BluRay with both the theatrical and the director's cut.
Excellent entertainment. August 22, 2010 eswan While significant points have been changed from the original classic novel, this is still a wonderful movie. I especially like the music in it. Hauntingly beautiful.
The love story is very romantic and well-done, the historical aspects very educational. Well drawn characters, well acted by all and the scenary is gorgeous, filmed in western North Carolina. A great adventure.
